Capelin Caviar
Capelin Caviar for Beauty and for Taste
Capelin caviar is most popular for its use in sushi, as masago. In fact, the largest market for the roe of the capelin is in Japan. However, it is also enjoyed as caviar for its versatility and strong aroma. The roe of this fish is generally orange in color, but can be found in a variety of beautiful and vibrant colors.

A caviar presentation can be an elegant touch to any social gathering, business event, or romantic evening. Capelin caviar comes in so many colors and varieties that it is a must have, both for its taste and its ability to spice up your presentation.
Capelin is a fairly small salt water fish that lives in the cold waters of the northern Arctic Ocean. Iceland is known as one of the primary exporters of capelin caviar. It is most desirable to harvest the roe from the female Capelin just prior to spawning season, which occurs during the winter. This is when the taste and texture of the caviar is thought to be the best.
Inspired by Asian cuisine, it has become increasingly popular to mix Capelin roe with wasabi and serve it as wasabi caviar. This is a fiery idea for any caviar presentation as it adds a tremendous flare both in appearance and in taste, providing guests with a definite palette cleanser in between caviar tastings.
Real Tobico Caviar
Capelin caviar is often confused with tobico roe, properly spelled tobikko. Tobikko caviar, or tobico caviar, is the roe of a species of flying fish. In Japan, tobikko roe is a very fine delicacy. Capelin caviar is similar in size, texture, and somewhat similar in taste. It is also much more abundant. As such, the Japanese began to use Capelin as a substitute for tobikko. That is where the confusion is between Capelin and Tobikko caviar.
Both types lend themselves to an amazing presentation and a great variety to any caviar presentation. You can find great prices both Capelin Caviar and Tobico Caviar using the links provided below.
